The challenge
MALA is a statewide association of residential and assisted living providers whose members serve more than 30,000 people across Michigan. Training is central to what MALA offers, but updating courses and launching new ones was slow. Users had separate logins for the website and two different eLearning systems. The site had security issues and technical headaches. And the equivalent of one full-time employee spent their time exporting member lists, calculating dues from each member’s demographics, and running renewals by hand.
What IGD did
We fixed what was at risk first, then worked through the rest one piece at a time:
- Secure and stabilize: a security review of the site core and modules, fixes, and removal of redundant modules
- One eLearning system: we evaluated both learning systems, agreed on a plan with MALA, and moved every course into one modern system with single sign-on, making courses more interactive and easier to edit along the way
- Automate membership: joins, renewals, and demographic-based dues are calculated and charged automatically and synced to their email marketing system
- Revamp the website: we rebuilt the site to be more interactive and to better represent MALA online
The results

| Security issues in the site core and several modules | A secure, stable site |
| Slow, difficult course updates and launches | Interactive courses that are easier to edit and launch |
| Dues calculated by hand from member demographics | Dues, payments, certificates, and reminders fully automated |
| One full-time person exporting members and running renewals | Email lists always current, and that staff time freed up |
